As a professional artist I enjoy exploring a wide variety of mediums and artistic tools to create and design my compositions. Each medium presents different challenges and a variety of different results. All are beautiful and unique. My studio and home are located in Summit Park, Utah, a beautiful mountain community near Park City. The amazing scenery here where I live and work, as well as throughout the American west, ignites my creative spirit.
As a painter I work with a variety of mediums, Pen and Ink, Pastels, Latex, Acrylic and Watercolors. I also use a variety of appliqué mediums such as handmade paper and tissue. I paint on location and also in my studio. I take many photographs of scenery and interesting subjects and draw from them and my imagination to create my compositions.
Polymer clay is one of my favorite mediums because it is very colorful and versatile.
It combines well with other mediums. I design one of a kind jewelry, mobiles, sculptures, vases, unique and fanciful pens, shawl clasps and hair adornments. If I can imagine it I can make it with polymer clay.
For my “Eco Art” I use anything that looks interesting. I collect a lot of strange things that most people call junk. But once I've recreated, sculpted and reassembled them, they become beautiful, diverse works of art. That's when my "junk" finally impresses everyone. It's also a great way to recycle.
I also create yard and garden sculptures each spring as soon as the weather permits. That's when nature becomes my palette. I use a combination of drift wood, willow branches and a variety of sticks collected and grown to make abstract, natural trellises, fences and sculptures.
During the winter months I am drawn to fibers and fabrics. I knit, sew and stitch up blankets, clothes, socks, hats, shawls, scarf’s, you name it. I am very lucky to have a wonderful, spacious studio, which allows me to manage several projects at the same time.
My inspiration comes from many sources, my inner and outer world, my friends, my family and other artists whom I love and admire. Where would we be without one another?
I have a BFA from the University of Utah and an Associates degree in Graphic Art. I teach painting and crafts workshops for community education evening programs in Park City and Salt Lake City. I also offer private and small group classes in mixed-medium painting processes, polymer clay and jewelry techniques.
For the past ten years I've worked full time as the Props Artisan for Pioneer Theatre Company on the University of Utah campus. The work is both challenging and creative. I've also worked as a Graphic Artist for newspapers and ad agencies in Salt Lake City. I am very grateful to be able to live my life through art, what could be better than that?
